E18 Langangen-Rugtvedt, Grenland tunnel

The Grenland Tunnel, part of the E18 Langangen-Rugtvedt project, is 5.2 km long and serves as a bypass of city of Porsgrunn. Metrostav Norge AS is excavating two tunnels from the Kjørholt and Herregårdsbekken portals.

Project characteristics

The Grenland tunnel is part of the E18 Langangen – Rugtvedt project, which is 17 kilometers long and includes four lane highway, brigdes and tunnels. It forms the bypass of the city of Porsgrunn, which lies on the route of the E18 highway between Oslo and Kristiansand.

The Grenland tunnel itself, with a total lenght of 5,2 km is being excavated from the Kjørholt portal in the south, the Herregårdsbekken portal in the north and two access ramps in the middle of the tunnel.

Metrostav Norge AS is excavating the 2 x 1,7 section of the Grenland tunnel from the Kjørholt portal and the 2 x 1,4 section from the Herregårdsbekken portal.
