Varberg tunnel
The expansion of the railway through Varberg includes a 2.8 km long tunnel, whose waterproof and frost-resistant insulation over an area of 63,000 m² was carried out by Metrostav Norge AS using PE foam and fire-resistant concrete.

Project characteristics
The expansion of the railway through Varberg is one part of the expansion of the entire West Coast Line between Gothenburg and Lund in Sweden. It creates a quick, efficient and environmentally friendly means of transport.
The Varberg tunnel is 2,8 km long railway tunnel. Metrostav Norge AS has provided water and frost insulation works. It was needed to insulate over 63 000 m2 of the tunnel.
PE foam sheets with dimensions of 18×2,75 m are covered with fire resistant shotcrete. Besides standars technical bolts, special attention is paid towards systematically placed steel brackets for traction lines.
