Project description

The Fámjin tunnel located on Suðuroy, the southernmost of the Faroe Islands, will shorten the distance between the villages of Ørðavík and Fámjin, and it will lead to better road safety since cars will no longer have to drive over the wind-exposed mountain ridge. The tunnel, with a length of 1200 m and a T8,5 profile, is being excavated from a portal located above the village of Ørðavík. Included in the work of Metrostav Norge AS is also securing the tunnel, eventual grouting, and installing water and frost insulation.

The new Fámjin tunnel will among other things contribute to:

  • better safety when travelling between Ørðavík and Fámjin
  • faster travel route
